About this opportunity

Cenovus’s New Grad Program aims to attract, develop and retain exceptional new grads to build a top talent pipeline for the company​. The program provides new grads with a broad understanding of Cenovus’s core business through challenging work assignments, training and development, field exposure and the opportunity to develop a large network of contacts through networking and mentorship opportunities.

Our Program consists of three consecutive 12-month rotational assignments that span Cenovus’s varied business areas. Upon completion of the three-year program, you will be matched to a permanent role within the organization. This role will be based on business need and relocation may be required.

As a Power Engineer at Cenovus, your 3 rotations will consist of:

Lloydminster Thermal Operations

Lloydminster Heavy Oil Upgrader

Work Environment in Lloydminster

Lloydminster Thermal schedule: 7 days on 7 days off, a 12-hour shift rotating between days/nights including working weekends/stat holidays

Lloydminster Upgrader schedule: varies rotational shift

Successful candidate will need to live in the surrounding area or be willing to relocate to Lloydminster

What you’ll do

Responsibilities may include

Operate the Facility in a safe and effective manner, while working collaboratively as part of the operating team

Maintain and troubleshoot all area-specific equipment to optimize performance

Perform condition monitoring including sampling and testing per area responsibilities. Complete area operations records. (e.g., volume balances, log sheets, work permits and required reports)

Support operations performed maintenance activities aligned to the site’s operating philosophy. Support on-site maintenance contractors by communicating Company’s requirements, policies, and procedures, while leading by example

Comply with all HS&E requirements in the performance of this Position's responsibilities

Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications

Legally authorized to work in Canada

Available to begin work June 2027

Must have a diploma in Power Engineering program obtained by May 31, 2027, and completed within the last 2 years (2025, 2026 or 2027)

Minimum 3rd class power engineering certificate or successful completion of 3rd class engineering provincial exams with the expectation to acquire 3rd class ticket within 6 months of graduation

During the three-year program you will be expected and must be willing to relocate to any of Cenovus’s operating sites for your rotations and/or your end-of-program placement. Note that your initial location will be considered your “home location” and will likely be where you will be based upon program completion
